The first thing that will strike you about Aylmer Lake Lodge is the stark, and vast beauty of the tundra. As a photographer I loved the landscape, and the light. Being above the treeline keeps the water temps low and the fish up in shallow water which as a fly fisherman is ideal. Dry fly action was insane! I could have fished dry the entire time and easily had success. Very aggressive grayling and lake trout would rocket to the surface. We also cast out to finning fish in mirror still water under pink sunsets. I was surprised by the quality of the dry fly fishing in a place I wouldn’t have expected it. Streamer fishing really delivered the big fish for me. Kevin and his guide Ben got me into the right water to land the largest fish I have caught to date, four fold. I don’t think we caught any fish under 20 inches. All the staff took care of us, fed us well, and entertained us. Very down to earth people in a very rugged land, untouched by almost anyone before. As a fly angler, there is so much untouched potential out at Aylmer Lake, and unique fishing that very few people will get to experience. I highly recommend it!
